Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Colombian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SCCOT), I would like to express our most sincere gratitude for the
honorable invitation to be the guest country at its OTA Congress in Montreal, Canada. This recognition filled us with pride and
enthusiasm, motivating us to continue working on the training and development of our professionals in orthopedics and traumatology.
Thank you for the opportunity we had to represent the Colombian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SCCOT) at this high-level
event. Sharing our experience through conferences, symposiums, and posters, together with renowned international experts, was an
invaluable experience for us. This space for academic and scientific exchange will further strengthen the ties of collaboration between
our societies and allow for continued mutual growth in traumatology.

We sincerely thank the OTA for its generosity in including the SCCOT in this significant event and for their trust in us. This congress
was undoubtedly an excellent platform for sharing knowledge, innovations, and experiences that will enrich the practice of our
specialty.
Once again, we are grateful for the generous invitation. We look forward to continuing to participate in IOTA events and having the
opportunity to continue learning and sharing. We are confident that it will be a unique opportunity to forge new alliances that continue
to benefit orthopedics worldwide.
Thank you all again for this recognition and your continued support.

The 2024 OTA Annual Meeting in Montreal was critical and extremely useful for the Ukrainian delegation. We were honored to be a guest
this year and given the opportunity to share our achievements in orthopedics and limb injuries. For me personally, as a representative
of the medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and my colleagues from the Ukrainian Association of Orthopedists and
Traumatologists, the treatment of combat trauma of the limbs was especially relevant.
At the Annual Meeting of OTA from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a report was presented on the topic: "Periarticular gunshot fractures in
the formation of primary defects of bone and soft tissues," as well as two posters: "Algorithm of Surgical Treatment of Critical Bone
Defects in Combat Trauma of Limbs" and "Periarticular gunshot fractures with the formation of primary defects of soft tissues and bone
structure."
New theoretical knowledge has been obtained in treating bone defects in combat trauma of limbs using modern external fixation devices,
implants for submerged osteosynthesis, devices for taking autobones, and modern devices for NPWT. Based on the master class, practical
skills in the treatment of defects in the soft tissues of the limbs were obtained. At the medical exhibition, an acquaintance with
modern methods of diagnosing and treating the musculoskeletal system's wounds, injuries, and diseases took place.
The exchange of knowledge and experience we gained is invaluable. We will continue actively participating in OTA, the best international
orthopedic trauma platform in the world.
We sincerely thank the OTA organization for the opportunity to attend as a guest nation this year, and I hope we will see all of you
soon at the next meeting in 2025.

The Guest Nation Experience: Cuba
|
Dr. Horacio Tabares was honored to represent the Cuban Society of Orthopedics and Trauma (SCOT) at the 2024 Annual Meeting in Montreal.
Dr. Tabares presented Cuba's Trauma System Organization during the Orthopaedic Trauma Care session at the event. This session provided a
valuable opportunity for Dr. Tabares to share insights on the organization’s work, contributing to the ongoing discussions and
advancements in trauma care. It was a meaningful moment for both Dr. Tabares and SCOT to participate in the meeting and reinforce their
dedication to shaping the future of trauma care on a global scale.

2024 Humanitarian Scholarship Recipients
|
The OTA offers a Humanitarian Scholarship designed to provide orthopaedic trauma education for young surgeons from low and
low-middle-income countries. The scholarship award covers the individual's travel, room, and board for attending the OTA Annual Meeting
and the opportunity to participate in an observership at a North American institution with an OTA member serving as a mentor during the
visit. Due to the generous support of the Wyss Foundation and the annual contributions made by the members of the OTA, the Humanitarian
Committee can fund up to three scholarships annually. Congratulations to the 2025 Humanitarian Scholarship Recipients!
